(More customer reviews)Have had this heater for 6 years now and have used it a lot.Much of that time it has been working every winter evening on a small landing where the heat it produces on the high setting boosts the temperature of adjacent rooms, allowing me to keep the gas furnace thermostat set significantly lower.

Prior to locating it there, I kept it at the foot of my bed to turn on via the remote before I got up on cold mornings.It was like a hot comforting little sun -- very pleasant.

My cat adores roasting for hours in front of it every evening.On especially cold days, I leave it on for her for an hour or two in the low setting.She enjoys it more than her heated cat bed.

The tip-over shut-off does work (suggest avoiding heaters that don't have this critical safety feature).

The timer is also a very good feature -- very easily set for up to several hours at time in 15 minute increments.

Dimplex CS1205 Compact Electric Stove Review

(More customer reviews)Some critter got under the house and detached our heating ducts a few years ago so we only use electric heat and ambient heat from other rooms in the livingroom. I was looking for a better space heater after an Econoheat panel shorted and melted while I slept.

The problem with most space heaters is they are UGLY. They look like they belong in a garage. I wanted something that looked like a piece of furniture that wouldn't set fire to my cats and that could heat up a big room with open doorways. I should also mention that I have a humor-based decorating style, so whether someone else will find it tacky or not is of no concern to me. I don't invite people without a sense of humor into my home.

Anyway, I went with this. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being an orange spotlight behind a fan blowing white bits of fabric around like some Halloween decorations, and 10 being a real fire, I'd give it a 7.5. It only looks like a real fire if you're not looking directly at it. The foily logs help a bit and it does have a slight 3D effect that makes it better than some, but even if you add a crackling fire mp3 and burn wood incense in the room no one is going to mistake it for a real fire.

That's not to say I don't like it. It does provide that hypnotizing effect you look for in a fireplace!

Additionally, it was 35 degrees F last night. I live in a farmhouse with 4 inch walls and cellulose insulation. I put it in my livingroom, which is approximately 500 sq feet, with an open doorway, 2 large windows, a sliding glass door, no basement, and an open stairway. It kept the room at 72 to 74 degrees all night.

It seems to be of sturdy construction. The top stays cool. The fan is very quiet. It's also light and portable. Overall I'm satisfied enough to get another one for my office.

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a heater that would fit under my desk, and provide slow comfortable heat without popping the circuit breaker.This is an excellent heater for an office or other small area.
The heater is rated at 400W.I tested the current draw a few times by plugging the heater and my computer into the same outlet strip, and turning them on simultaneously.No problems - the circuit never tripped (of course in actual use the heater should be plugged into a wall outlet).
When used under a table or desk, I've had to turn it down to near it's minimum setting.It provides enough local heat that I can turn the main furnace down 2-3 degrees.For the cost of a 40-watt light bulb, I can work in comfort!
Although it doesn't get as hot as a fan heater, like other oil heaters it is sometimes too hot to comfortably touch.Be aware if there are toddlers or flammables nearby.
The product page is sketchy on details; heater dimensions are approx. 21.5"L x 15.5 "H.Width ranges from 0.5" at the fins to a 5.25" W at the base.Weight is just under 7 pounds.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this heater for a home office after using one for my actual office.Additionally, there were about 10 or so other people in the office building that utilized these heaters.I would say that the room sizes ranged from 12' x 12' to about 20' x 20'.As an oil-based heater, it takes a few minutes to warm up and also warm up the room.However, once it gets going, it really does a fantastic job.This particular heater, I believe, is also made under the brand "New Air."I ultimately chose this heater over other heaters because it is 1) very thin and takes up very little space, 2) it takes up only 400 watts (unlike most other heaters that take up 1,500 watts), 3) it works very well, 4) it's completely silent (great for speaking on the phone) and 4) I believe it's safer than coil-based heaters.Since this heater is used in a space that has a multitude of other equipment pulling a good amount of wattage, the low wattage was a primary consideration.In fact, the actual office building chose this heater to replace the other original 12 or so heaters because the other heaters were constantly tripping the circuit breakers due to over-utilization of electric power.While it would be nice to have a digital switch to set automatic shut-off and temperature, there is a manual dial where you can set the temperature in the room by turning the dial until you here a "click," which will cause the unit to keep the temperature at that level.All in all, I'm very pleased with this heater and would recommend it to others that are interested in safety, preventing circuit-breaker tripping and silent running.
