(More customer reviews)I was looking for a heater that would fit under my desk, and provide slow comfortable heat without popping the circuit breaker.This is an excellent heater for an office or other small area.
The heater is rated at 400W.I tested the current draw a few times by plugging the heater and my computer into the same outlet strip, and turning them on simultaneously.No problems - the circuit never tripped (of course in actual use the heater should be plugged into a wall outlet).
When used under a table or desk, I've had to turn it down to near it's minimum setting.It provides enough local heat that I can turn the main furnace down 2-3 degrees.For the cost of a 40-watt light bulb, I can work in comfort!
Although it doesn't get as hot as a fan heater, like other oil heaters it is sometimes too hot to comfortably touch.Be aware if there are toddlers or flammables nearby.
The product page is sketchy on details; heater dimensions are approx. 21.5"L x 15.5 "H.Width ranges from 0.5" at the fins to a 5.25" W at the base.Weight is just under 7 pounds.

(More customer reviews)I have tried 5 different units over 8 yeasrs (two being this one). Only one worked 1/2 way decent, and it still has problems.

This one is the most powerful 110volt portable unit there is.

In general, they all end up leaking water all over the place. None of them seem to be able to evaporate the water as fast they are supposed to. By winter, I can expect the units to leak water everywhere, and the water light never comes on.

All 5 brands are cheaply made and by the same factory even though they are from different manufacturers.

If you are looking for portable AC. Better to skip it as you'll be lucky if you find a unit that satifies your needs. IF you are insistant, go with a better built unit. Google around for a unit built in the US, most likely it will be designed for server room cooling. Most likely that will run $1000-$3000.

I am on my 5th unit and wish we had just spent the money up front instead of having to replace the unit every year as we are doing now.

These units are generally cheap and you get what you pay for. I would rate this higher if not for the water issue (I just cleared an 1/8 inch of standing water out of a 12 x 12 room).

(More customer reviews)After reading many of the reviews on Amazon, I purchased this delonghi heater. I can't be happier with its performance. I believe the more positive reviews are a result of using this heater as it was designed - to gradually maintain a slow heat in a small-mid sized enclosed room (say, 20x20 with 9' ceilings). If you want to quickly heat a large room with a blast of hot air, get something with a fan or turn up the thermostat.

We use this heater at night. It does such an effective job of keeping our room at a comfortable 70F (even at lower settings), that we have programmed our central heat thermostat to go down to 60F at night. Of course, the effectiveness of the heater is also dependent on how well your house is insulated.

There were some comments about the heater getting hot to the touch. Well, yes, of course it does - it's a heater! But even at it's highest setting,the metal is not sizzling. It is well insulated enough that you can touch it for a few seconds before it gets uncomfortable - plenty of time for the occasional times you may bump into it. At lower settings - this isn't even an issue.

Why an oil-filled heater? It produces a very gentle heat without drying the air like a conventional ceramic or electric heater.

Why the delonghi? Gentle heat without any sound. We purchased the Honeywell 7-Fin Oil-Filled Radiator Heater as well (they were out of stock of the delonghi), and while it heats fine, it creaks and cracks when you use it. I'm sure this is due to the metal expanding and contracting as it gets warmer and cooler. It's not a huge problem, but if you are a light sleeper, it may be an annoyance.

The only downside I can think of is the wheels. Doesn't roll well on carpet - which is fine, we don't' move it much anyway. But overall, love the delonghi. We've had it for 2 weeks now and I hope it lasts this way for several years.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this from Amazon.com for our 6 month old baby's room so we don't have to heat the rest of the house just to get his room warm.I compared this to oil heaters and found this to be better since it is also quiet (no fans) and fairly safe.

I was surprised on how light weight and small it is compared to the pictures on the web.The dimensions are: 26"wide, 20" high (23" high on wheels), 2.25" depth (10" deep when on wheels).It is easy to carry because it only weighs about 5 to 8 pounds (I didn't weigh it).

The heating elements heats up very fast, so that is a definite advantage over oil heaters.It can be mounted on the wall with the included wall mount bracket.Once my baby starts walking I will mount it on the wall to keep it out of reach for him, since the front of the unit does get very hot (although you will not burn yourself if you happen to touch it for a second).So you can hang it up like a picture.The heat only radiates from the front of the unit.The front is smooth in comparison to a oil heater, so your child will suffer less injury than the sharp radiators on oil heaters if he/she runs into it with the head.

It heats a small bedroom quickly, so I think it will also heat a medium sized room with low celings well, but probably not a large living room or kitchen/dining-room.

PROS:
1. Lightweight low profile design can be wall mounted
2. Quick heating
3. Totally quiet
4. High power heating

CONS:
1. Odor: During the first day of use after new it off-gases a lot and generates a strong odor.So make sure to turn it on high heat in the garage or somewhere away for several hours before installing it in a closed room.

2. No digital thermostat: I would prefer a digital thermostat where you can set a temperature.With this one you have to wait until the room is at the right temperature and then set it.This is not exact and takes several tries to get it right.

3. The front of the unit heats up more than I expected, so make sure kids stay away from it.
