I had my unit start on fire. Called company & they asked which model & after that needed another # on box to show Which manufacturer they used. They said one of the manufacturer had a known problem but they "hoped" people would call in to get fixed. THEY SHOULD RECALL!!I ended up taking back to Target - but what a pain!!BE WEARY!!

The panel over the propane tank does not fit correctly, so that the cover can not be secured in place.The diffusion hood over the heating element is relatively small so that the heat is contained in a small area around the heater.

(More customer reviews)Despite the many reviews and various sites online stating this heater doesn't 'throw heat' as it should, this heater works exactly as it should.

Infrared heaters act like the sun.They don't throw heat per se, they provide rays of energy that can be absorbed when you are in their path: i.e. when you're out in the sun you feel the warmth because your body and clothing absorb the rays - but when you're in the shade you are out of reach of most of the rays and therefore don't get warm.

These heaters don't have fans, they are made to provide heat to items directly around or under them.

This particular heater is exactly as it is described.The base is very heavy and sturdy, the construction is exceptional, and though it can be used indoors and outdoors you need to remember to keep at least 12"-18" between the top and sides of the heater and the ceiling and walls.Since it stands 7' tall you won't have enough space inside most houses for the heater to function without fire hazard.That said, it's perfect for a porch or when you're sitting outside and need a little extra heat.

(More customer reviews)Very disappointing.... 3 hours to assemble... and even with a plumber friend had a hard time getting the LP gas connections safely connected.Overall this unit seems a bit cheap and flimsy -- wouldn't buy this again if I had the chance to do it over.Keep looking - there's got to be a better unit on the market!

update: March 2008:It's now been a year since we bought this and every time we turn it on I feel a little guilty about this review.Yes, assembly was a pain, but once we got it together, it's worked flawlessly since and puts out great heat.Amazon won't let me upgrade this to 3 or 4 stars, but I did want to add that this has been a good unit.

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these for my wife in late April to use on our lakeside decks during cool evenings. It was such a hit with both her as well as my pregnant daughter-in-law that it was the perfect gift for said DIL's May birthday and now has primacy of place on her patio.

While the heaters are of little use during the present heat wave, I have no doubt they will both be put to good use as soon as cooler weather returns and will extend the use and enjoyment of our patio and decks respectively.

Readily positioned for comfortable use on their attached wheels, the heaters are easy to start, adjust and extinguish, and the distaff members of the family have no difficulties using them unaided. The unadorned black and SS finish lends them an unobtrusive presence and I find them relatively handsome for their ilk.
